How to Improve the Life of Your New iPod Battery
Apple iPods are among the most stylish and popular media players that can accompany you just about anywhere. Whether you’re walking to school, jogging around the block, traveling to new places, taking a road trip, or simply hanging out at your favorite spot, your iPod can be your best companion. When that iPod runs out of battery, however, you may just be in for a long wait with nothing to do. No matter what type of iPod you own, you can be sure that you’re probably going to run out of battery at some point in time. If you want to get the most out of your iPod battery, there are some things you could do to help preserve the battery and, ultimately, lengthen battery life.
Adjust your screen options
One of the iPod’s biggest battery eaters is its screen. Whether you own a Nano with a small screen or an iPod Touch with a larger display, that screen is going to be eating away at your battery if you don’t tweak its settings. Check out the
screen brightness setting and set it to the lowest setting that you’re able to tolerate. Anywhere between 30% and 50% brightness is just right for energy savings. Another screen setting your may want to change is the backlight timer. Turn the timer down to its lowest setting so that the screen dims and turns off after a short period, avoiding wasted energy.
Use sleep and hold functions regularly
Perhaps the best thing you can do to conserve your battery power is to regularly use the hold and sleep functions of your iPod. When you don’t need to use the iPod controls, put your iPod on hold mode, which disables all of the controls so you don’t accidentally turn the device on or off and you avoid having the backlight turned on. When not in use, turn the sleep mode on so that the battery doesn’t drain unnecessarily.
Disable the equalizer
Although the equalizer is a great feature that helps you fine tune your iPod’s sound qualities, it also drains the battery of your device quite a lot. This is because the iPod is using more power to process the sound and apply the equalizer effects that you have on. If you aren’t very particular with equalizer settings or if you’ve already set the equalizer settings into your music tracks, then you won’t need to turn on the iPod equalizer.
Create good playlists and avoid track scanning
Another great piece of advice for extending the battery life of your iPod is to avoid switching tracks a lot. The biggest consumer of battery power in the iPod is its hard drive. Every time you change the track or scan through your tracks,
your iPod accesses the hard drive more, which leads to more power consumption. The best way to avoid this is to create great playlists with those you love to listen to. If you feel like you might get bored listening to the same playlist over and over, try mixing it up a bit by using the shuffle feature of your iPod or by creating lots of playlists that you can switch between, depending on your mood or preference.
Drain the iPod battery before charging it
So you won’t need an iPod replacement battery too soon, the smart thing to do is to drain your battery before you plug in the device to recharge it. Your iPod battery can easily lose power the more you charge it and it gets weaker and weaker until it runs out of power and die.
In some cases, despite looking after your iPod battery, you will need to replace it. Instead of going without your iPod for several weeks [which is how long it will likely take Apple to replace your battery] and send you a “refurbished” [aka “used] replacement iPod. For only the cost of S&H we’ll send you a [brand new] replacement iPod battery that’ll take only minutes to install with the included toolkit and detailed instructions.
